Emergency Response Guide for Vehicle Fires in Tunnels

When a vehicle fire occurs in a tunnel, time is of the essence. To ensure
the safety of all individuals, it is crucial to handle the emergency quickly
and effectively. The following is the emergency response procedure you
should follow if you encounter a vehicle fire in a tunnel.
Emergency Response Procedure
1. If the vehicle is still drivable:
Immediately exit the tunnel: If the vehicle can still be driven, exit the
tunnel as quickly as possible to prevent the fire from spreading.
Pull over to the emergency lane: Find the nearest emergency lane
or safe location to park the vehicle.
Turn on hazard lights: Ensure other vehicles notice your situation
and remain alert.
Place a warning triangle 150 meters behind the vehicle: Place a
warning triangle at an appropriate distance behind the vehicle to
warn other vehicles to slow down.
2. If the vehicle is unable to move:
Pull over to a designated parking bay if possible: If the vehicle is
unable to move due to a malfunction, try to park the vehicle in a
designated parking bay within the tunnel to avoid blocking traffic.
Avoid blocking the road: If there is no parking bay, try to park on
the right side of the road to avoid obstructing other vehicles.
Use the tunnel wall alarm button or dial 12122 for help: Once
the vehicle is stopped, immediately use the alarm button in the
tunnel or dial 12122 for help to receive assistance quickly.
3. If there is no mobile phone signal:
If your mobile phone has no signal in the tunnel, you can use the
emergency telephones located in the tunnel. These telephones are
placed in conspicuous locations within the tunnel and usually have
a one-touch alarm function. Simply press the button to directly
contact the tunnel control center, report the fire, and receive
timely assistance.
Emergency response to a vehicle fire in a tunnel requires calmness
and quick action. Following the above procedures will not only
protect your safety and the safety of your passengers but also
provide timely information to other vehicles in the tunnel and
traffic management departments, ensuring that the incident is
handled quickly. Remember, the emergency telephones and
alarm buttons in the tunnel are important tools for contacting
rescue services when there is no mobile phone signal.
